Smoky Hill Trail Association Archive
The Smoky Hill Trail Association was established in 2007 to preserve, promote and interpret the heritage of the Smoky Hill Trail which ran from Atchison, Kansas to Denver, Colorado beginning in 1859. The archives of the Association are located in Forsyth Library on the campus of Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.
James R. Start Papers
This collection consist of the faculty papers of James R. Start, who taught in the Speech and English Departments at Fort Hays Kansas State College from 1920 to 1965. The papers consist of speeches, articles, reading lists and correspondence related to his time at Fort Hays State University.
George F. Sternberg Collection
This collection consists of the collected papers of paleontologist George F. Sternberg, who served as curator and later director of the Fort Hays State museums from 1927 to 1961. Materials consist of correspondence, publications, field notes, fossil lists, photographs, scrapbooks, and video recordings.
Jean Stouffer Papers
This collection consists of the papers of Jean Stouffer, who taught education and served as Dean of Women and later as Associate Dean of Students at Fort Hays Kansas State College from 1950 to 1976. The papers are comprised of photographs, 35mm slides, memorabilia, genealogy research materials, and reel-to-reel audio recordings of ethnographic research.
Donald E. Stout Papers
This collection consists of the faculty papers of Donald E. Stout Collection, who taught music at Fort Hays Kansas State College from 1953 to 1989. The materials consist of correspondence, research papers, teaching notes, musical compositions on sheet music, photographs, 35mm slides, awards, realia, and memorabilia relating to the Madrigal Dinner and other concert performances.
