Biographical / Historical
Raymond Edward Fleig, born March 9, 1919 and died September 4, 2015. Raymond was a retired U.S. Army Officer, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He had earned the Silver Star and Legion of Merit Medals for Gallantry, the Bronze Star with Cluster for Bravery and the Purple Heart in addition to nine other medals. He was a retired Professor (emeritus) of Clark Sate Community College with twenty five years of educational service. Raymond was a graduate of the United States Command and General Staff College, Wittenberg University, B.S. in Education and Wright State University, M.S. in Education. And was assigned the distinction of DISTINGUISHED MEMBER of the 81st. Armored Regiment by the Secretary of the Army John O. Marsh. Governor Wallace G. Wilkerson of the commonwealth of Kentucky commissioned him a KENTUCKY COLONEL. The United States Armored Force has designated him a “Tank Ace” and his name is inscribed in the Armored School “HALL OF FAME” at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The tank gunnery range at Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania was dedicated the “RAYMOND E. FLEIG TANK GUNNERY RANGE” in 1994. He was a member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church of Springfield. A Master Mason, of Masonic Lodge #120 F&AM, Yokosuka, Japan, the Consistory of Charleston, WV, and 32nd degree in the Scottish Rite Lodge of Wheeling, WV.
