Scope and Contents

The Larry D. Fenwick & Lynda Beck Fenwick Oz Collection contains books, periodicals, research notes, artwork, and other memorabilia relating to the Oz books created by L. Frank Baum. Materials date between 1899 and 2025.

Highlights of the collection include a nearly complete run of the Oz books by L. Frank Baum and nearly complete runs of the "Famous Forty" Oz books by subsequent "Royal Historians of Oz" Ruth Ruth Plumly Thompson, John R. Neill, Jack Snow, Rachel Cosgrove Payes, and Dick Martin, as well as The Wicked Years series by Gregory Maguire and other unofficial continuations and spinoffs of the Oz series. Reference and other Oz-related publications in the collection include the authorized 55th anniversary edition script of MGM Studios's The Wizard of Oz (1939), the Bibliographia Oziana, The Book collectors Guide to L. Frank Baum & Oz, The Annotated Wizard of Oz, The Baum Bugle, and other Oz periodicals.

The Fenwick collection includes an assortment of Oz memorabilia, including Christmas ornaments, posters, signed limited-edition prints and photographs, music boxes, postage stamps, and figurines. Highlights include one-of-a-kind artworks created by Lyn Beck Fenwick, including a graphite portrait of L. Frank Baum, a Land of Oz chess set, and four handcrafted dolls of Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion.

Abstract

The Fenwick Oz collection contains books, artwork, handcrafted dolls, and other memorabilia relating to the Oz books created by L. Frank Baum. The collection was curated by FHSU alumni Larry D. Fenwick and Lynda "Lyn" Beck Fenwick (class of 1966), who collected the materials over the course of Larry's career. The materials date between 1899 and 2025.
