Headquarters Department of Kansas,

Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, June 17th 1862

Thos M. Bowen Esq

Sir yours dated Marysville 14th inst. is received by the hand of Rev. Mr. Murdock. If you can enroll the minimum for a company of Cavalry (79) for 3 years or during the war I will have you mustered in and attached to the 9th Reg. Kans. Vol. You will be stationed in Washington County as long as there is necessity for troops there. If you get your Company full you had better report here in person and process your outfit and the mustering officer can accompany you back and muster the company. They will be mounted on Government horses. Jas G. Blunt Brig General Leavenworth

Hd Q Dept. of Ks. Fort Leav. July 8, 62. Respectfully referred to Lieut. C. S. Bowman. Mustering Officer this Dept. You will make out the necessary requisitions today so as to be able to proceed by Thursday next at farthest. Orders will be furnished you for the mustering. Tho. Moonlight Capt. & Adjutant
