Front: "If cold December gave you birth, The month of snow and ice and mirth, Place on your hand a turquoise blue, Success will bless whate'er you do." - See Our Display of Christmas and Holiday Goods - KENNEDY'S Artistic Jewelry, Optical Work Cut Glass, Art china, Etc. La Crosse, Kansas December 1911 calendar
Back: "The hills are dearest which our chi'dish feet Have climbed the earliest; and the streams most sweet Are ever those at which our young lips drank." - Whittier. John Greenleaf Whittier was born December 17, 1807, in the east parish of Haverhill, Essex County, Massachusetts, in a house built by his great-great-grandfather, Thomas Whittier, in 1688. The house is not unlike thousands of the pioneer homes which exist in New England, but few are so excellently preserved and none is so deservedly famous, for this is the homestead which Whittier describes in his "Snow-Bound," and this single dwelling has thus become in literature a type of the pioneer New England home.
