Biographical / Historical
The Defenders Headquarters building was in Wichita, Kansas and was founded by Gerald Winrod, a leader in the Protestant fundamentalist movement in the 1920’s and a far right activist in the 1930’s. He published a magazine called “The Defender” that defended his ideas against liberal theology and Darwinism, as well as a national “Moral Sag.” – Encyclopedia of the Great Plains
