Back: Dryden Potteries located on Highway No. 40 in the very center of Kansas at Ellsworth was organized in early 1947 by Jimmy Dryden, a young World War II veteran. Dryden studied at the University of Kansas under Prof. J. Sheldon Carey, head of the ceramics department of the Fine Arts School. A G. I. loan made what is now Kansas' most famous pottery possible... Mr. Dryden, Sr., also lent considerable financial and moral support during the first trying years of the new industry. Now if you have never see pottery... history's oldest art...made; here is a wonderful opportunity to see every process from the raw Kansas Clays and Kansas volcanic ash to the final beautifully fired pottery...designed and glazed in exciting colors, to please America's finest homemakers. This card entitles car license No. to a free Dryden pottery souvenir (sorry, only one card per car can be honored for free souvenir). So don't fail to stop and visit Dryden Pottery, right on Highway No. 40 at Ellsworth, plenty of easy parking space... open for visitors seven days every week.
