Biographical / Historical
World War II – 203rd Infantry Regiment, 77th Division – platoon leader on Okinawa, led a 12-man squad who scouted the island the night before the main invasion. Didn’t get away clean – hand to hand combat. Heavy fighting – grenading the [illegible], Jap. civilians got in the way. Only 13 of the 120 men in his unit left the island. Line duty - basically boring - momenets of terror.
