Biographical / Historical
World War 2 - Enlisted in 1944 in Valdosta, Georgia. Stowed in the engine room of a cruiser, bow blown off by a mine, limped back to San Francisco. Greatest fear - Jap. sub or plane, lived in a life jacket. Stowed on U.S.S. Los Angeles - docked in Shanghai - [illegible] ship hit off Okinawa, went from his station to a hospital ship off Guan (minus his legs). What was the war about? Had never seen a Jap. Advice- “Know who your fighting and why!”
